A project is a foot to redesign the NYC taxi cab. If Target can redesign the ubiquitous prescription drug bottle then it's high time for New York and all of America to see a new purpose built taxi cab design. I wouldn't advocate a single source solution but certainly there is a market for a few purpose designed vehicles.
I for one wonder why competing cab companies don't find ways to compete on features of their vehicles. When I stand on a corner to flag a cab I would(given a choice) flag down the brand/make of cab that I found offered the best legroom or most efficient air conditioning or someday the best power outlets and wifi connectivity depending on my needs for that particular trip.
Everyone knows and accepts the status quo in taxi cab design and service. It's a market ripe for disruptive design. It's uphill all the way thanks to the layers of entrenched stockholders keen to defend the status quo.
Somebody somewhere is going to reinvent the whole world of American Taxicabs and make a lot of money doing it.

What's a tag?
My old friend Murray Tovi in NYC is driving a cab, though he is also a creative genius.
I guess you can find him theough the taxi commission and involve him in your project.
He is creative. He is a cabbie. He thinks in several dimensions. Give him a holler.

Hi Peter;
I was browsing through ask.com and came accross something you had posted in 2005.
You might be interested in my current work. I can send it to you as an attachment.
Glad to see you are still at it.
