New ways to consume and use media are all the rage these days. Adoption rates are zooming for DVRs(Tivo) and MP3 players(iPods) which time shift media and allow users to consume media WHEN they want to.
Now comes Sling Media which aims to allow users to consume media WHERE they are. Dubbed placeshifting the concept allows users to access the content of their media equipment through the internet using a mobile player.
Slingbox will enable users to view the recorded programing from their Tivo while traveling or at work. Imagine watching last nights episode of "The Apprentice" from your Tivo during your lunch break via your office network.
You're traveling on business and you miss out on the school play. No problem your spouse simply drops the mini DVD from the camcorder into your DVD player at home and you can watch it in your Wi-Fi equipped hotel room.
This is going to foster new forms of videocasting and niche programming as well as drive adoption of broadband connections.
Very cool. Thank you, Mr. Davidson.
