Quality can be a tricky thing. Recently Nissan brought 200 engineers to analyze quality problems at their $1.4 billion American assembly plant in Canton, Mississippi. Among their findings were the fact that jewelry such as watches and wedding rings worn by employees were the cause of paint blemishes on the vehicles.
Do you suppose if they had fully engaged line employees they might have been able to save the expense of flying in the troops from Japan and maybe just, I don't know, asked what the line workers thought was causing the problems? I bet they would have discovered the answer. Makes me wonder what the working environment is like in that plant.
Workers must now remove all metal before beginning work on the line.
