HP is on to something. Taking a lesson from Mercedes and the Four Seasons HP has a win win marketing program where they are providing five digital cameras to each of ten Fairmont Hotels. Hotel guests can checkout the cameras, take pictures during their visit and use HP photo printers to make prints to take home with them.
HP has found a way to get their products into the hands of potential customers at a time when HP's products would be most relevant to them. With proper training and support a program like this could be huge for a consumer electronics company.
What if Apple provided fully loaded Ipod loaner units to guests on cruise ships. Do you think it might boost ipod sales to an older demo if they had a relaxed 7 day test drive?

would the songs be pre-loaded or will people have to bring their own songs..
what about headphones...who wants to wear other people's headphones.

I would imagine that song libraries could be preloaded as part of a promotion for the itunes store. Playlists could be customized based on the demographics of the cruise customers. Apple could easily supply new shrink wrapped headphones for each passenger.
