Having recently spent time with aging relatives who have recently lost their husbands I have noticed an interesting phenomenon that has me wondering if it's a widespread trend or just an anomaly. It seems a great deal of money is spent by women who have recently lost their husbands. Home improvements seem to be a definite focus. Furniture, appliances, windows, flooring, roofing, kitchen and bath makeovers, etc. all seem to be on the list. Many people wish to age in place these days and by making upgrades to their long term homes they can do so. Perhaps a response to a freeing from the bounds of a frugal spouse or simply completing things that were awaiting the spouses attention that now will not come these improvements often take the newly single homeowner into unknown territory.
A huge opportunity exists helping these women make good choices with their improvements. Trust and reputation management systems seem critically important. Knowing how to sell, relate, communicate and execute with the 60+ community are important business skills.
Not all seniors are ready for assisted living or retirement homes.
Do you know any active seniors who are busy with home improvements?
