Some time ago I asked you to consider how fast technology is changing by asking two questions. In these simple questions you can see how fast technology changes our lives.
As technological changes accelerate we are seeing wholesale changes to decades old industries. The linked article announces the closing of a picture tube manufacturing plant in the US by Thomson. The article sites a strong drop in CRT equipped television set sales as people adopt new technologies like Plasma, LCD and Digital Light Projection.
While the article points out that the job losses are not a result of offshoring it does not address any offsetting job creation in these new technologies. I wonder where these new screens are made.
The jobless recovery, offshoring, automation, shifting technologies, globalization and other factors reshaping our culture and societies makes one think about what is needed to prepare future generations for life in the new reality of the 21st century. Any thoughts?
