This week the Japanese demonstrated a maglev train that goes 360 miles an hour. Can you imagine what this technology could do to revolutionize travel and cargo shipping? Sure it's expensive now but costs will come down with time. Trains like these won't replace commuter trains or any kind of application that involves multiple stops. Longer runs with few stops to maximize peek speed performance are what these trains are about.
You could spend billions to expand existing airports in congested areas or you could build satellite facilities perhaps 50 miles out on cheaper open land. At 300 mph the distance between the ticket counter and the gate could be measured in literal miles. Check your bags at the ticket counter, board a train and 20 minutes later at a satellite airport miles away you board a flight to your destination. This could have amazing implications for air traffic control and security.
